Using the case of India, Henrik Valeur discusses some of the problems and possibilities related to the urban transition of the so-called “developing” world and propose some possible solutions. The concept of smart cities will briefly be discussed and development urbanism will be introduced as an alternative strategy.

Henrik Valeur is an independent architect-urbanist, curator of CO-EVOLUTION: Danish/Chinese Collaboration on Sustainable Urban Development in China (Golden Lion, Venice Biennale of Architecture 2006) and author of India: the Urban Transition - a Case Study of Development Urbanism (2014), which is based on his experiences teaching, researching and practicing in India.
