Big, or growing greenhouse gas emitters, such as China, USA, the European Union, India, and Brazil, will have a particularly significant role in the transition to net zero. All their paths to net zero will be different, reflecting their different local contexts, and a Just Transition (which doesn’t affect one country or portion of society unfairly) means that getting to net zero must still allow them to develop economically. Principally, all countries and people will need access to the zero-carbon energy that life in a zero-carbon world will require.
