CASA's Mike Batty gives keynote at GeoInfo 2015

1 December 2015

GeoInfo 2015

Mike Batty gave the keynote at the 16th Brazilian Symposium on GeoInformatics at San Campos do Jordão in Sao Paolo State on the 30th November 2015 at the end of his trip to Brazil where the CASA-Birkbeck team (Mike, Joana Barros and Chen Zhong) launched the RESOLUTION project.

Symposia that cover our domain and methods expertise in distant places always provides us with a reality check on our own research. In Brazil, the focus on how social media can be used to simulate location and movement parallels our own work with Twitter, crowdsourcing, and mobile sensors. Of particular interest was the work on collecting geolocated Tweets using the platform developed by a Brazilian start up GoGeo which any of course can use to collect such data in volume. The application demonstrated how the tool enables one to copy and map in real time all tweets that are geocoded world wide. Worth travelling to Brazil just to be informed of this.
