CASA Awarded Funding to Increase Access to Data Science and AI Careers
7 February 2024
The Bartlett’s Centre for Advanced Spatial Analytics (CASA) has been awarded £270,000 for 27 scholarships to increase access and diversity in data science and artificial intelligence (AI).
CASA has been awarded funding from the Office for Students (OfS) to provide scholarships as part of the CASA Urban Futures Master's scholarship programme.
This funding of £270,000 will provide 27 scholarships worth £10,000 each to Urban Spatial Science MSc and Connected Environments MSc UK students starting their programmes in September 2024.
The CASA Urban Futures Master’s scholarship programme is part of the nationwide drive by the OfS to expand access to the AI and data science sector for people from various underrepresented groups, including women, students from minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
Dr Jon Reades, CASA Director, said:
“We are extremely delighted to receive this funding for the second year in a row. Last year, we awarded nine CASA Urban Futures Master's scholarships, and we can do even more this year because of the OfS funding, enabling 27 students to gain the skills they need to pursue careers in AI and data science. We are grateful to the OfS for their continued support of our sector-leading Master’s programmes and we look forward to welcoming a new cohort in September 2024.”
The scholarship is currently open for applications. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have received an offer to study Urban Spatial Science MSc and Connected Environments MSc, starting in 2024. They must also be eligible for a UK Postgraduate Master’s Loan.
