The GIS TiMELiNE was first developed in the late 1990s by Muki Haklay, Sanjay Rana, Simon Doyle and Martin Dodge who were then all members of CASA. It presents a visual overview of key historical events in the development and growth of Geographical Information Systems from their conception in the 1960s to the present day which was then the year 2000.
We have not updated the timeline as the authors have gone their separate ways although two of them are still within UCL and all remain in GIS.
There are 3 ways to look at the timeline:
- By selecting events arranged according to decades
- By selecting a combination of event types and decades
- By selecting events with keywords search
