A two-week workshop and one-day symposium based around the development of a new city in Western Australia, Yanchep Two Rocks.
Experimental City Workshop
How do you design a new city? The Bartlett's Experimental City Workshop offers participants a rare insight into a live architectural project on a city scale, the design of Yanchep Two Rocks, and the opportunity to input their own ideas and design proposals.
Participants will have tutorials, undertake group work and benefit from a final critique from industry experts. They will also enjoy a bespoke tour of The Bartlett Summer Show, and opportunities to explore the urban features of London.
The Experimental City Workshop is designed for postgraduates, professionals and practitioners in architecture, urban design and related disciplines. The Workshop will be delivered by Sir Peter Cook, Gavin Robotham and Gin Wah Ang, the designers of the city.

The Experimental City Workshop is open to applications from postgraduate students, recent graduates, researchers and professionals in fields of or relating to art, architecture, design, urban studies and film.
Fluent English is expected.

- All participants travelling from abroad are responsible for securing any visa required, and are advised to contact their home embassy early. Only after payment of fees can The Bartlett provide a letter confirming participation in the workshop.

Experimental City Symposium
The second day of the Experimental City Workshop will be a symposium with leading figures discussing alternative ecological and cultural approaches to creating new urban spaces and specifically this new city, Yanchep Two Rocks.
The symposium is open to the general public to book, but tickets are included in the fee for the Experimental City workshop.

Confirmed speakers
Chair of the Symposium
Sir Peter Cook is an emeritus professor and Former Chair of The Bartlett. He also holds the roles of Director of CRAB and Founder of Archigram. Peter has authored projects such as ‘Plug-in City’ and ‘Instant City’ and has co-designed several university buildings in Austria, Australia and the UK.
Roberto Bottazzi is Director of Urban Design MArch at The Bartlett. He has organised many conferences, including Future Matters: The Imminent Reality of Multi-materiality, and created numerous installations for international audiences, such as at the Future Places Festival in Porto.
Claudia Pasquero is Director of the Urban Morphogenesis Lab at The Bartlett and Professor of Landscape Architecture at Innsbruck University. Co-Director of ecoLogicStudio, Claudia operates at the intersection of biology, computation and design. She has also exhibited extensively across Europe.
Gavin Robotham has been directing and designing CRAB’s university projects with Sir Peter Cook. Having graduated from Harvard Graduate School of Design, Gavin is now a Senior Teaching Fellow at The Bartlett and is currently heavily involved in the Yanchep City project.
Bernard Tschumi is Former Dean of the University of Columbia’s School of Architecture. Author of many books, Bernard has built structures such as Parc la Vilette, Paris, and the Acropolis Museum, Athens.
Gin Wah Ang is CEO of the Yanchep New City Development. Gin is a qualified architect in Australia and was awarded the UNESCO Prize for Innovation for his work in Singapore.
Liam Young runs Tomorrow’s Thoughts Today and co-runs the Unknown Field Division, a nomadic research studio that travels around the world documenting emerging trends. He has been acclaimed in both mainstream and architectural media and his work has been collected by major museums. Liam also teaches at SCI-Arc and Princeton University.
