The Architizer Vision Awards are a newly launched global awards programme honouring the art of architectural imagery and those that bring it to life through photography, drawings, renderings, videos, physical models and more. The Creator category celebrates the individual achievements of talented creators across every aspect of architectural representation. Winners form a vibrant showcase of powerful architectural imagery, setting a new benchmark for the industry.

Olivia’s work was selected from hundreds of entries to be named Best of the Year: Student Creator for her Architecture MArch (ARB/RIBA Part 2) Year 5 project ‘Somewhere I Have Never Travelled’. Her work will be published in the limited edition anthology, Visions of Architecture.

Somewhere I Have Never Travelled

Where do we go when we read? This pub, designed for Amsterdam’s city centre, answers this question, creating a bar residing in the metaphysical, inviting you in through its drawings, wherever you may be visiting from. Pencil drawings emerged from data collected when the pub opened at dusk. Small devices constructed from black mirrors and poetic fragments were taken to the site and created textual openings, using the fragments as locators. As the site darkened, the black mirrors became more intangible and only came to life out of the amorphous backdrop when aligned with the light from the surrounding nightlife. The data collected by these models at their points of activation became the information from which to tease out a sublime architecture dwelling in the textual world, activating the imagination just as reading does.

Olivia graduated in 2023 from Architecture MArch (ARB/RIBA Part 2) and was tutored in unit PG25 by Nat Chard and Emma-Kate Matthews.
