Bartlett Students’ Innovative Structure Exhibited in the London Design Festival

2 September 2019

An installation designed by students Fabrizio Tozzoli and Alfredo Ferrer will be on display at Oxo Wharf Tower this September as part of capital’s design festival.

Wooden structure in front of Oxo Wharf Tower

Two students from Design for Manufacture MArch, have designed a timber structure for this year’s London Design Festival. Assembling Reciprocity celebrates the possibilities for timber sections as self‐supporting reciprocal frames to build structures, relying on the design of the joints between sections.

Students, Fabrizio Tozzoli and Alfredo Ferrer, used advanced digital tools to make the non‐planar structure out of reciprocal frames, with guidance from Programme Director Chris Leung and in collaboration with Coin Street Community Builders. The process demonstrates the possibilities afforded by parametric geometry and multi‐axis robotics to design and fabricate the structure’s critical joints.

Assembling Reciprocity will be open to the public from 18 – 22 September at the Oxo Wharf Tower in London. The opening event will take place from 18:30 on 18 September and will be an opportunity to meet the team behind the project with refreshments.
