Life in Sweden

Swedish Music

Sweden music has given the world more than ABBA. The Hives, Robyn, and Basshunter are just a few of the big Swedish names that are well known outside of their home country. Swedish songwriters have written some of the biggest hits for bands such as Take That, Britney Spears and even Madonna. Did you know the famous Britney song "...Baby one more time" was written by a Swede and the majority of the track was recorded and produced in Sweden?

One of the biggest differences between the UK and Sweden is our take on the Eurovision song contest. There is no Terry Wogan cracking jokes and poking fun at the contest in Sweden. For the Swedes the Eurovision is a serious competition and Eurovision music has a large following. There are even special club nights where you can go just to dance and sing along to Eurovision tunes!

Swedish music is about more than just pop. It is a big part of traditional culture and plays an important role at celebrations and festivities. Folk music and choirs are also very popular in Sweden with both the young and old.
