MASc Creative Health Degree Structure

The MASc in Creative Health programme addresses a growing interest in the fields of Arts and Health and social prescribing, with a focus on research-led practice, community engagement, non-clinical approaches to health and wellbeing, and experiential teaching. Taught modules will provide the necessary grounding for you to understand the scope of research, policy and practice across these diverse areas. A research dissertation will be undertaken with a community partner, providing practical experience of the role of community organisations in supporting different aspects of health and wellbeing, with a focus on developing and applying research and evaluation skills.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

The programme consists of four compulsory modules (60 credits), two optional modules (30 credits) and a research dissertation (90 credits). Upon successful completion of 180 credits, you will be awarded a MASc in Creative Health.

Teaching and Learning

The programme is taught with an emphasis on collaborative and co-operative learning to ensure that you enter the workforce capable of joining projects and programmes where working in teams is important. Assessment is through written assignments, unseen written examinations, projects, oral presentations, group work, and the written dissertation.

Core modules are taught across terms one and two. Optional modules vary according to the host department, but will run in Terms one, two or three. The dissertation runs across the academic year.

PG Certificate in Creative Health

The programme consists of four compulsory modules, each worth 15 credits. Upon successful completion of 60 credits, you will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Creative Health.

PG Diploma in Creative Health

The programme consists of four compulsory modules (worth 15 credits each), a 30 credit independent research project, plus two optional 15 credit modules. Upon successful completion of 120 credits, you will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Health.

Part-Time Degree Structure

The programme can be studied part-time over two calendar years. BASC0051 Lived Experience in Policy, Practice and Research and BASC0053 Introduction to Interdisciplinarity are compulsory modules, but you can choose to take them in year 1 or year 2. You will take one of the following module combinations in your first year:

  1. BASC0030 Arts, Nature and Wellbeing: Non-Clinical Interventions in Health (video), BASC0051 Lived Experience in Policy, Practice and Research, BASC0052 Research Methods in Arts and Sciences and BASC0053 Approaches to Interdisciplinarity OR
  2. BASC0030 Arts, Nature and Wellbeing: Non-Clinical Interventions in Health (video), BASC0051 Lived Experience in Policy, Practice and Research, BASC0052 Research Methods in Arts and Sciences and one optional 15 credit module OR
  3. BASC0030 Arts, Nature and Wellbeing: Non-Clinical Interventions in Health (video), BASC0052 Research Methods in Arts and Sciences, BASC0053 Approaches to Interdisciplinarity and one optional 15 credit module OR
  4. BASC0030 Arts, Nature and Wellbeing: Non-Clinical Interventions in Health (video), BASC0052 Research Methods in Arts and Sciences and 2 x optional 15 credit modules or 1 x 30 credit optional module.

You will then take one of the following module combinations in your second year:

  2. BASC0050 Dissertation Project, BASC0051 Lived Experience in Policy, Practice and Research and one optional 15 credit module if you took BASC0053 in year 1 OR
  3. BASC0050 Dissertation Project, BASC0053 Approaches to Interdisciplinarity and one optional 15 credit module if you took BASC0051 in year 1 OR
  4. BASC0050 Dissertation Project and 2 x 15 credit modules or 1 x 30 credit module if you took both BASC0051 and BASC0053 in year 1.

Please note that EU and Overseas students who will require a visa to study in the UK are not eligible for the part-time programme as UCL will not sponsor part-time study visas.
