In this study, which was conducted at UCLH, the authors explored the feasibility of replacing paper-based guides with smartphone applications for antimicrobial prescribing guidance. The authors concluded that smartphone apps are an effective and acceptable format and suggest they may empower users to challenge incorrect prescribing. Future work will need to focus on the direct impact on drug prescriptions and identifying barriers to implementing smartphone apps in other clinical settings.
