UCL Americas student winner of Faculty Rep of the Year Award

19 June 2023

Naomi Hampton

We are delighted to announce that Institute of the Americas final year student, Naomi Hampton, has been named the Faculty’s Academic Rep of the Year, in the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences (SHS).

Naomi is a final year student on the BA (Hons) History and Politics of the Americas, and has been a rep for all three years on her degree programme. Every year she worked tirelessly to fairly and comprehensively represent the views of all the students and to ensure they were taken into account in the department’s decision making – through remote learning during covid and in person. In her final year she was elected as the co-Chair of the SSCC, and worked closely with staff and students alike to run useful meetings.

On top of her work as an academic rep, she was one of 3 students who recently set up our departmental society. "It was important to me to make the Institue a welcoming space with opportunities outside of the classroom. I have thoroughly enjoyed representing the interests of my fellow students and planning events to bring us together as a department," Naomi said.

We warmly congratulate Naomi, and wish her the very best with her future studies, including pursuing her J.D. at William and Mary law school next year.
