UCL Alumna Natalia Koper's article shortlisted for prestigious journal prize

23 February 2023

Natalia Koper

Warm congratulations to UCL Americas alumna Natalia Koper, whose article 'The Inter-American Court of Human Rights and Indigenous Rights in Nicaragua: From Land to Empowerment?', based on her UCL dissertation theme, was shortlisted for the 2021 Bulletin of Latin American Research Prize.

The annual BLAR Article Prize is awarded for the most distinguished article published on Early View during the previous calendar year. The prize winner is also awarded £200 and their article is made free to access through Wiley Online Library for 1 year.

The BLAR Article Prize is usually adjudicated in February each year, so that it can be announced at the annual Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS) conference in April. The 2021 adjudication took longer to happen, but its merit remains the same.

Natalia Koper

Natalia completed her MSc in International Relations of the Americas at UCL Institute of the Americas in 2016. Her dissertation, entitled 'Indigenous cosmovision through the lens of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in the light of the Awas Tingni case,' was awarded the International Relations of the Americas Dissertation Prize for the best dissertation on an IR topic for 2015-16. Encouraged by her thesis supervisor Dr Par Engstrom, she decided to turn her research findings into a journal article. Natalia is currently pursuing a dual Bachelor of Civil Law and Juris Doctor degree at McGill University and works at a business law firm in Montreal.
