María José Jiménez publishes article in major Mexican newspaper
24 May 2021
'El Universal', one of Mexico's most influential newspapers, has just published an article by UCL Americas alumna María José Jiménez.
María José's article, Los desaparecidos en las conferencias del Presidente deals with the desaparecidos, individuals or even groups who have been kidnapped and who have never been found, against a background of impunity and apathy from the authorities. Mexico holds an appalling record of desaparecidos cases, as well as a low rate of judicial follow-up. In her article, she analyses how this horrific issue is dealt with (or not) by the current government, and how it is portrayed in the president's daily press conferences.

María José completed her Latin American Studies MA in 2020. She is currently working at Mexican political communication organisation SPIN-TCP, conducting daily analyses of the president's press conferences, amongst other remits.
