Marieta Valdivia Lefort

Marieta will be joining UCL Institute of the Americas in September to pursue her PhD degree, having completed her Public Policy MSc at UCL Department of Political Science & School of Public Policy in 2018.

Marieta's project is titled National identity and Neocolonialism: A comparative research into the legitimation of an Europeanising memory in the Americas. This research project pursues a comparative analysis of the construction and perpetuation of national identity imaginaries in Chile, Dominican Republic and Colombia by reviewing the elements of nationalism, patriotism and racism present in the content selected to be taught in school education in each of these countries. Marieta's project will be funded by the prestigious Becas Chile scheme. She will be supervised by Professor Paulo Drinot.
