Shodona Kettle awarded competitive scholarship to pursue PhD studies
6 July 2020
The theme of her project is the study of reparations movements in the Americas
We are pleased to report that UCL Americas alumna Shodona Kettle has been awarded a UCL Research Opportunity Scholarship amidst intense competition, in order to embark on her PhD studies with us.
The tentative title of her project is Reparative histories and healing contemporaries: A comparative investigation into transnational movements for reparations in the Americas.
This PhD project pursues a comparative analysis of reparations movements in Haiti, Colombia, and Ecuador, encompassing geographic and historical comparisons, allowing for the identification of patterns and intricate connections between the local, global and transnational. It considers the extent to which the transnational affects the national movements in the quest for reparations, healing, transformative justice and the reimagination of afrofutures. Shodona will be working under the supervision of Dr Kate Quinn and Dr Par Engstrom.
Shodona completed her Globalisation and Latin American Development MSc at UCL Institute of the Americas in 2013.
