AMER0063: Political Economy of Inequality in the Americas

Outline

This course evaluates how and why inequality is so deeply embedded in the Americas. It focuses on the historical roots of inequality and the political and economic mechanisms that make it persistent, growing, and/or difficult to reduce. This course also analyses redistributive policies and identifies which political and institutional factors make them successful. This module is designed to prepare the students to write dissertations on the issue of inequality from a multidisciplinary perspective. (This module can be linked to the dissertation for students writing a compulsory final year undergraduate dissertation, and will include a set of dissertation writing workshops.)
