Hello! I am Dimitrios Voulgarelis, a MRes student at CoMPLEX, UCL.

My primary interest is in mathematical biology and hence my projects were mainly focused around mathematical modelling of dynamical systems, more specifically in developmental biology and infectious diseases. In addition I worked on a project regarding freeze-drying of medicine.

  • Mini Project 1, in which I explored the design principles in gene-regulatory networks by simulating and investigating the effect of two different pricniples (mutual repression and cooperativity) on a simple 3-gene network.

  • Mini project 2, in which I tried to develop a novel mathematical framework to describe the freezing-stage of the lyophilization process, in medicine, using the Cauchy Integral formulation.

  • Mini project 3, here we developed a compartmental SIR model for HIV transmission in order to investigate the key parameters that affect the prevalence among high-risk groups.

  • MBA poster. As a part of our trip to the center for marine biology in Plymouth we had to make a poster. Mine concers the identification of pattern modules in cuttlefish.

  • Summer project, in which we formulated a mathematical model that would allow us to asses different vaccination policies.
