Rosa Morison Scholarship in English Language and Literature

Founded in 1912 by the will of Miss Rosa Morison, Lady Superintendent of Women Students, 1883-1912, "for the promotion and encouragement of the study of and proficiency in English Language and Literature"

  1. A Scholarship to the value of £200, known as the Rosa Morison Scholarship in English Language and Literature, may be awarded in each session for distinguished work in these fields.

  2. The Scholarship is awarded by the Council on the recommendation of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

  3. Candidates must be past or present women students of the College, must have attended for not less than five terms a course of study in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and must intend to pursue a course of research.

  4. No application is necessary.

  5. The qualifications of the candidates are considered by the Quain Professor of English Language and the Lord Northcliffe Professor of Modern English Literature, who advise the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

  6. Normally the Scholar elected must pursue a course of study and research for a higher degree at University College. She may be permitted, in exceptional circumstances, to pursue a course elsewhere if the Faculty of Arts and Humanities approves.

  7. The Scholarship is awarded in the first instance for one session, but may be renewed for a second session on the recommendation of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

  8. Awards are subject to the provisions of the General Regulations.
