Professor Ali Zumla has been elected as a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences.  The election followed a rigorous review and evaluation process by independent reviewers and by 10 Membership Advisory Committees in different fields.  The recommendations of these groups were then submitted to the 34th meeting of the Governing Council for review and final endorsement.

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is a pan-African organisation based in Kenya.  It aims to drive sustainable development in Africa through science, technology and innovation.
