UCL's Video Observed Therapy featured in The Independent
13 December 2017
Pioneering work by a team led by Professor Andrew Hayward of UCL's Institute of Epidemiology and Healthcare is the subject of an article published by The Independent.
Researchers from the team have found that, by providing high-risk TB patients with a specially-adapted smartphone, treatment adherence can be monitored remotely with great success. The study found that using this technology was not only significantly lower in cost than the more traditional, directly observed therapy (£1,645 per patient compared to £5,700), but the patients were more likely to complete their course of treatment.
