About the UCL SDGs Initiative

UCL is seeking to maximise the impact it is having on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

Through their discoveries, teaching and influence, universities like UCL are playing an essential part in responding to the challenges set out in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In 2020/21, we established a university-wide initiative to maximise our impact on the SDGs and the targets within the Goals.

We are already playing a leading role in these efforts through our world-class teaching, research and distinctive cross-disciplinary approach. On this website, you can read about some of our work relating to each Goal.

We are also:

  • working with our partners across the world to develop solutions to global, national and local problems
  • raising awareness of the SDGs among our students, equipping them to be the next generation of researchers, policymakers and campaigners who will spearhead efforts to achieve the SDGs
  • and ensuring our own policies and operations actively contribute to attaining the SDGs.

Moving forwards, we believe we can do even more. Find out more about the kind of university we are.

The SDGs at UCL

The case studies on this website showcase some of the hundreds of ways that our staff and students are helping to achieve the Goals, and making the world a better, more equitable and more sustainable place. It draws on examples of research and teaching from across our 11 academic faculties, the contributions of our students, and the ways we operate as an institution, to demonstrate how we are supporting each of the 17 Goals.

Take a look at our case studies page here.
