Sofia Balestrieri, 2nd year History, Politics and Economics

Sofia Balestrieri

Hello, I am currently a second-year History, Politics and Economics student here at SSEES. The course so far has allowed me to explore and understand the world through three distinct subjects that are deeply intertwined and influence each other. The program allows me to explore these depths and interrelationships, while also being allowed the freedom to tailor my degree for my own interests and curiosities. The quality of the modules, lecturers, and students invites constant discussion of different and unique perspectives amongst SSEES students and staff.
Thus far, the Frontiers of History module was one of my favorite modules as it gave me a different lens to view crucial eras in history. All my economics modules have allowed me to deepen my pre-existing knowledge of economics and will open the doors for me to take courses like Econometrics and European Macroeconomics. The focus of the department on Central and Eastern Europe creates a unique perspective by which to understand the world and view current events.
Furthermore, a strong sense of community is built both inside and outside of the classroom, with the department and SSEES society providing countless opportunities to join career-focused events, extra lectures and even embassy visits, organized by our SSEES society.
