In April this year Hungary held a new round of parliamentary elections that resulted in a third straight victory for the governing FIDESZ-KDNP coalition, led by prime minister Viktor Orban. The right-radical JOBBIK movement became Hungary's leading opposition party in parliament. To explain why the left has become so unpopular in Hungary and why Orbán's government has become electorally impregnable, UCL's School of Slavonic and East European Studies is delighted to host one of Hungary's outstanding political scientists, Professor Iván Balog of the University of Szeged, who will give a talk entitled 'Explaining Orban's Victories: The Political Situation in Hungary Today' at 6pm on Tuesday, 9 October, in the SSEES building, Room 347. Profesor Balog's talk will be followed by a reception.
This is event is free and open to all, no need to register.
