Industry placements

Our students carry out real-world security-related projects in collaboration with companies or government organisations

Work placements give our students valuable professional skills that are sought after by graduate employers, as well as giving them an opportunity to put into practice the skills they have learned during the course.

As part of our Bsc Crime and Security Science, students have the chance to apply for a placement with a company or government organisation during their second year of study.

During these projects, students will focus on solving problems of direct interest to these organisations, allowing them to not only carry out leading research, but also to learn the valuable skills that will turn them into future leaders.

For example, in recent years, students on work placements have analysed threatening letters sent to athletes, helped assess the quality of support for victims of domestic abuse, and designed an app to help people report sexual harassment.

Some companies that our students have completed work placements with include Slough Borough Council, BuroHappold Engineering, ASOS, Theseus Risk Management, NSPCC, Stop the Traffik and Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
