Fire safety training

The Fire Safety eLearning course is mandatory for all staff including temporary workers and postgraduate students.

Course description

The Fire Safety course is mandatory for all staff including temporary workers and contractors working for more than three days. It is also a course for UCL Fire Evacuation Marshals (FEMs) and a refresher for those who have completed a similar course in the last two years.

Everyone must also complete a local fire safety induction (see Fire Technical Note TN086) and building familiarisation carried out face-to-face by their manager or a designated FEM.

There are two modules in the Fire Safety course and you will need to view and carry out all the activities set in both modules.

Module 1:

The Fire Safety module consists of four short films and a five-question activity to confirm that you have carried out your local fire safety familiarisation.

  • Fire safety
  • Fire evacuation for persons with a disability
  • Role of the FEM
  • Types of portable fire extinguishers

Module 2:

The Fire Evacuation Marshals' module consists of information and instructions needed to maintain a `fire safe? environment for staff, students and visitors within your departmental areas. Please complete the FEM validation activity.

COVID-19 Return to Work

People returning to work onsite need not carry out the Fire Safety course if you have undertaken the eLearning course in the last 24 months whether in Moodle or using MyLearning. However, you must complete a local fire safety induction and building familiarisation carried out face-to-face by a member of staff or a FEM.
