Ms Jelena Zivkovic is a PhD candidate in Islamic Archaeology and Materials Science. She holds an MA in Archaeology from Belgrade University and an MA in Archaeology of the Arab and Islamic World from UCL Qatar.
Her primary research interest lies in the application of scientific methods for the analyses of late medieval and Ottoman ceramics from urban centres in the Balkan Peninsula. Particular emphasis is placed on a connection between technological changes in domestic pottery and the process of Ottomanisation in Belgrade between the early 15th and the early 18th centuries. Besides her PhD studies, she is currently carrying out two diverse research projects; the consumerism of Iznik ceramics in Ottoman Belgrade, and technological characterisation of Late Islamic Bahla/Khunj Ware from Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates, which is important for the understanding of trading networks in the Indian Ocean.
