The Laboratory for Protein Crystallography

Accessing the Crystallography Facility

"High resolution pictures change the nature of a field, directing biochemical experiments. They have a disproportionate impact."

- V. Ramakrishnan, Nobel prize for the ribosome structure 2009.

Access from within UCL

Our aim is to make crystal structure determination available to all groups within UCL, regardless of whether or not the have existing crystallography experience. We have three modes of access to the facility for this purpose.

Contact: Alun Coker for details.

Machine Access
Time on the X-ray generator and use of the Mosquito crystallisation drop setter can be booked by experienced crystallographers. Crystal screens cost £35 and generator time is charged at £24 per hour.
Research Café
We can host a small number of visiting fellows from other groups who have no previous experience in X-ray crystallography. Consumables costs and machine access costs can be paid by departmental transfer.
Crystallography Service
We can also provide a full crystallography service and provide help with grant writing.

External users

Access for commercial and academic users from outside UCL can be arranged through Fonaxa - a not-for-profit community interest organisation hosted by the LPC.
