Work in Progress Webinar Series

The UCL Psychoanalysis Unit's Work in Progress webinar series is a rolling programme of talks based upon papers and research projects currently in development. We believe that ideas are more likely to grow and flourish if they are aired and debated.  We aim to provide a welcoming space for students and colleagues to ‘road test’ ideas they are developing with an audience of critical friends. We are interested in hearing about both empirical and conceptual work.  Previous webinars have been attended by staff, students and alumni of the Psychoanalysis Unit, as well as from the wider UCL community, and beyond. Registration is required to attend and is free of charge. Webinars are held in-person (when possible) and remotely over Zoom.

Do you have an idea or project that you would like to present and discuss in one of our seminars?  Please email events.psychoanalysis@ucl.ac.uk with an abstract of no more than 500 words (less is fine).  We look forward to hearing from you!

Testimonials from Previous Webinars

The Work in Progress series is such a rare opportunity to deliver work that perhaps hadn't seen the light of day, or been subjected to a 'live' audience. I found the seminar format so useful in terms of ordering my own ideas, and it's just a general truism that you can't fully understand your work until you've first tried to explain it. The Events Team were so invaluable to the whole experience, and beyond tirelessly organising behind the scenes, ensure that these events find the audience they deserve - a group of 'critical friends', as they say.
I was delighted by the process, from organising it to presenting it, and I would unquestioningly recommend it to anyone who is beginning their career in academic work or who wants to recompose their work for the benefit of their public (and in turn for the benefit of themselves).
“To present my work to an audience was extremely helpful in knowing where I want to direct my future research, and to listen to questions and feedback feels crucial in knowing how to tailor one's work to fit the audience's understanding. The audience included experts in psychoanalysis and in other fields (such as philosophy) - as my project deals with the boundary of these disciplines, hearing the feedback of and being able to communicate with either side at the same time was sincerely enriching, and was only made possible by the department's organisation of an event which stretches beyond its internal audience. To present my work to an audience was extremely helpful in knowing where I want to direct my future research, and to listen to questions and feedback feels crucial in knowing how to tailor one's work to fit the audience's understanding.
