The UCL Policy Lab is excited to announce that Moazzam Malik, Managing Director for Global Delivery at the World Resources Institute, has become an Honorary Professor.

Ahead of the announcement, Moazzam Malik said “I am very excited to be collaborating with the UCL Policy Lab. The world faces immense global challenges including climate change, conflict, economic instability, inequality and poverty, and the risk of pandemics. The UK’s future prosperity and security rests on addressing these issues. We need to forge new partnerships with emerging powers, vulnerable countries as well as our traditional allies in Europe and North America. UCL is a great place to bring together academics, policy-makers and activists to find solutions that work for the 21st century”.

The Lab will work with Moazzam to help shape the debate on foreign affairs and development in the UK and globally. The Lab’s Director, Marc Stears was thrilled to welcome Moazzam as one of the Lab’s Honorary Professors.

“Moazzam has been at the forefront of the evolution of foreign affairs and development policy for well over two decades. He joins us at what is a critical time for the future direction of UK foreign and development policy. The potential to rethink how we approach these issues is huge, and Moazzam’s appointment marks a critical component in how the Lab will approach the debate.”

In an interview for the Policy Lab Magazine, Moazzam spoke about the exciting role the UK could play in the world and the potential for innovation when it comes to how we think about the role of foreign affairs. As a Director General, Africa at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) following the merger of the Department for International Development and the Foreign Office, Malik is well aware of the challenges and opportunities that come with major shifts in policy.

The Policy Lab – born as a joint initiative between UCL’s Department of Economics and Political Science – is committed to supporting decision-making and public debate through innovative and collaborative research.
