The UCL Policy Lab is delighted to announce that Dame Clare Moriarty, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice, has become an Honorary Professor.

Ahead of the announcement, Clare Moriarty said “I’m excited by the opportunity to work with the UCL Policy Lab. Working together will help to translate Citizens Advice’s uniquely rich insight on people’s problems into better policy and better outcomes for those we help.”

The Lab will work with Clare and her team to deepen our understanding of the impacts of the economy on people's everyday lives. The Lab’s Director, Marc Stears was excited to welcome Dame Clare as one of the Lab’s Visiting Professors.

“Clare has been a voice of clarity and compassion throughout this current crisis. These twin virtues are what she brings to any policy challenge. We can learn from Clare the importance of understanding complex economic policy alongside people's lived experiences. It’s this perspective that Clare brings to the debate at a critical time for the UK.”

In an interview for the Policy Lab Magazine, Clare spoke of the ground-breaking work being done by Citizens advice. Including the cost-of-living data dashboard gives real-time insights into how the crisis is affecting people—in some cases, predicting the next major social and economic challenge.

The Policy Lab – born as a joint initiative between UCL’s Department of Economics and Political Science – is committed to supporting decision-making and public debate through innovative and collaborative research.
