Joining, Borrowing and Fines

Becoming a Member of the Library

All members of UCL School of Pharmacy including Alumni members are welcome to join the Library. Please click here for information about membership and access rights to UCL Library Services.

Your UCL ID card is also your library card. You will need this card to borrow, reserve and renew library material.

Please note if you join as an Alumni member, you will not have an ID card, but the Library produces a Library ticket for you.  This ticket will have to be presented when entering the School and for borrowing books.  The Library asks that you provide a passport-sized photograph when applying for a borrowing membership card.

Concerning the use of personal laptops in the library with the wireless network, alumni members will need to contact the Computer Unit on 020 7753 5838 or by email.

Loans and Fines

Our short loan collection has a separate fine system as the books are heavily in demand.


Renew items yourself via the 'My Account' option on Explore. Your user ID is the barcode at the bottom of your UCL ID card, your PIN is initially available from any Library Issue Desk. You will not be able to renew online, in person or over the telephone if you have overdue books that are requested by other readers.

In order to renew over the telephone, please call 020 7753 5833 and have your UCL ID to hand.

Please note that you cannot renew your items via e-mail.

Reserve library material online via Explore, using your UCL card barcode number and your PIN.

Items can only be reserved if ALL loan copies are already out at a particular site.

You will not be able to reserve library books if you have overdue items. You can only reserve 3 items at any one time.

Users are usually informed by email when a reserved item is available, please note it will only be held for 4 days. You can also check your reservations' status via 'My Account' option on Explore
