Module Aims
• To develop knowledge and understanding of the range, nature and causes of developmental language and communication difficulties and their impact through to adulthood.
• To develop knowledge and understanding of a range of common assessment and management approaches to children and young people with a range of language and communication difficulties.
• To integrate knowledge of assessment and intervention approaches with current UK health and educational contexts.
Module Contents
This module will include developmental norms and variability in normal language development, causal and exacerbating factors in developmental language difficulties, the presence of additional languages and their impact on language and communication difficulties, and working in partnership with others within health and educational frameworks.
Theory, assessment and common intervention approaches for developmental language and communication difficulties includes: language difficulties (including Specific Language Impairment); Autism Spectrum Disorders; learning disability and stammering.
