Sannah Gulamani

Sannah Gulamani

I have a BA in Music and a background in inclusive education, developing and leading on a range of resources and programmes. I completed an MA in Applied Linguistics and Communication with Birkbeck University in 2019, specialising with a dissertation that looked at language attitudes and ideologies in the British Deaf Community toward hearing signers.

I've been based at DCAL since 2013 in both research and professional services capacity, in various roles and projects, particularly the BSL Corpus and BSL Signbank. I am now a Reasonable Adjustment Co-ordinator and the Impact and Communications Officer. I manage interpreting and communication support bookings, provide advocacy to wider UCL on access, manage impact generation, communication and publicity about the Centre’s activities, organise events and manage our social media activities.

I’m passionate about education equity and have a wide experience and interest in widening participation, student success and teaching at a primary, secondary and tertiary level. I have co-led, designed and taught on several widening participation programmes such as Discover UCL and British Sign Language Summer Schools. I have been awarded an AFHEA, Associate Fellowship in 2021 as a recognition of my commitment and work toward this area. I am frequently involved in many advisory forums and steering groups and recently assigned a Co-Chair of the Emerging Leaders Alumni Network.
