Dr Celia Caulcott appointed Vice-Provost (Enterprise)

The Office of the Vice-Provost (Enterprise) is responsible for delivering UCL's Enterprise agenda with the greatest economic and societal impact. Vice-Provosts are members of the Provost's senior management team.

Dr Caulcott is currently Executive Director, Innovation and Skills at the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), where she has responsibility for developing and delivering BBSRC strategy for innovation.

This focuses on accelerating the outstanding bioscience research outputs from UK research towards application, and ensuring support for the development of future bioscience researchers for the UK, in industry, academia, policy and elsewhere.

Prior to working for the BBSRC, she worked in and with the biopharmaceuticals industry (including Celltech Ltd, ICI Pharmaceuticals, the Wellcome Foundation and a range of UK early stage biotechs). She has also worked with the Wellcome Trust on the Human Genome Project and for Imperial College London developing research strategy. She has an honours degree in Microbiology and a PhD in pharmaceutical microbiology.

Professor Michael Arthur, UCL President & Provost, said: "Celia is a highly talented individual and will bring a huge amount of knowledge and expertise to this role. I warmly welcome her to UCL and to the senior management team. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank David Price, who has been acting as Vice-Provost (Enterprise) in addition to his other responsibilities during the interim period while we recruited to this position."

Commenting on her appointment, Dr Caulcott said: "This is a fantastic opportunity and I am excited about taking up this position in the autumn. The BBSRC is a fantastic place and I have been privileged to work with an exceptional team there. I very much look forward to building on the well-established enterprise and innovation foundations laid at UCL by my predecessor and his team and to representing such an exciting and well-regarded organisation."

The appointment follows a full global search and appointments process.
