Why do people buy merchandise from defunct businesses?

Commenting on the popularity of Lehman Brothers merchandise, a bank which collapsed during the 2008 banking crisis, Dr Dimitrios Tsivrikos (UCL Psychology & Language Sciences) says the “tongue-in-cheek cynicism” of showing off the item is likely a contributing factor.
