Professor Matthew Wing (UCL Physics
& Astronomy) and Dr Simon Jolly (UCL Physics & Astronomy) in the AWAKE collaboration at
CERN have demonstrated a new way of accelerating electrons to high energies
which could dramatically shrink the size of future particle accelerators and
lower their costs.
