Commenting on the ExoMars project, Professor Andrew Coates (UCL Mullard Space science Laboratory) said: "Methane in the Martian atmosphere is very interesting as it shouldn't be there, it should be broken up by sunlight, so the fact that it's there means there must be a source". Read: Daily Mail
