Moving office? Consider donating unused equipment to charities

1 May 2024

With a focus on sustainability and reducing waste, UCL Estates recently donated a wide range of furniture and equipment to charities and businesses as part of a lease disposal.

As part of an ongoing project to streamline the estate, UCL undertook a lease disposal of 123 Gray’s Inn Road. Workplace Health had previously occupied the ground and first floors before relocating to Bidborough House. The second floor was used as a meeting space, while the third and fourth floors were occupied by Eastman Dental Institute. The fifth floor was a temporary home for the Deafness, Cognition and Language (DCAL) Research Centre, during the refurbishment of their office at 49 Gordon Square.

In order to reduce waste, UCL Estates worked with charities, businesses, and other UCL departments to rehome a wide range furniture and equipment as part of the relocation project. This included connecting with Nesor Dental Equipment and the Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) to donate dental chairs and phantom heads, which are used for realistically simulating all types of dental treatment.

The team also donated more general office supplies, such as AV screens, flip-top tables, and chairs to BaseballSoftballUK and Sea Scouts, and 68 chairs were put into use at Maple House for another UCL department.

Wesley Knapp, Moves and Decants Project Manager said, ‘Due to the nature of the equipment in the building, this project allowed us to support a diverse range of organisations. UCL is committed to reducing waste and we are proud of our work to rehome and recycle furniture and equipment.’

UCL is committed to operating sustainably and in a socially responsible way. By donating items and fostering partnerships with small businesses and charities, we are reducing waste and nurturing a culture of community.

Together, we are working towards a more sustainable future, where every resource is valued. Join us as we continue to innovate, collaborate, and lead the way towards a greener future.
