New Annual Leave Year

11 October 2023

With the start of the new academic year comes the start of the new annual leave year – please do remember to plan and take your leave at regular intervals and record your leave in MyHR.

Group of UCL staff

Our leave year commenced on 1 October 2023 and your annual leave record has been automatically updated in MyHR to reflect your new entitlement for this year, including any days carried over and any additional days you have purchased. You can also check your entitlement, and book and approve annual leave, using the Inside UCL app. Please see the Annual Leave policy for more details about UCL’s annual leave entitlement, including bank holidays and UCL closure days.

Staff are asked to plan as early as possible and take their annual leave across the leave year, in consultation with their line manager/Head of Department and their colleagues, to ensure that there is sufficient and resilient staff cover particularly during peak periods of activity, for example during the run up to the start of the Academic Year.

We also ask all line managers and Heads of Department to ensure that they have systems in place to maintain an overview of their team’s annual leave; to check that everyone has the opportunity to take leave throughout the year, and to ensure that enough staff are present to cover key events and busy periods. The MyHR Manager Self Service (or delegated to Self-service Administrator) can be used to view the team’s absence collectively in a calendar format.

We want all our staff to take the annual leave they are entitled to, to ensure that they take breaks from work and are rested throughout the year, whilst also ensuring that academic work and professional services functions are delivered to a high standard. If you are finding it difficult to take breaks from work to support your wellbeing, please do reach out to your line manager in the first instance or otherwise contact HR.
