Announcing the winner of the Festive Bauble Design Competition
25 October 2023
Campus Experience & Infrastructure (CE&I) and UCL Public Art are pleased to announce the winner of the Festive Bauble Design Competition. Congratulations to Alice Cane, Philanthropy Writer for the Office of the Vice-President (Advancement) for her winning bauble design.
Alice’s design will be produced on high-quality glass and displayed across UCL campuses in December. The bauble will also be available for purchase as a holiday souvenir.
This year was the first Festive Bauble Design Competition and was an open invitation to staff, students, and alumni. Set to become an annual tradition, this competition will lead to a varied and innovative range of holiday decorations.
Alice’s winning design was inspired by UCL’s world-leading neuroscience research. In the design, abstract imagery of red and green neurons wraps around the Portico, resembling festive holly berries and hinting at the remarkable interconnectivity of the wider UCL community.
Sarah West, Head of Marketing, Communications and Experience at CE&I said:
“We are excited to start this annual festive design tradition. We look forward to working with colleagues throughout the UCL community to develop future collaborative projects that celebrate our diverse backgrounds and create a vibrant experience for visitors on campus”.
This competition is just one of many emerging programmes for students and staff to play a role in shaping our campuses.
Students, staff, and alumni are invited to save the date – Monday, 4 December – for this year’s Festive Light Switch On, led by Aimie Chapple, Vice-President (Operations). The winning bauble design will be on display on the Christmas tree in the main Quad and available for sale at the event.
