UCL Quad

A new senior academic champion for UCL’s equity and inclusion work is now being recruited to provide day-to-day academic direction for our programme of EDI activities. Based in the Office of the President & Provost,  and working in close partnership with the Chief People Officer, the Pro-Provost (Equity and Inclusion) will provide additional leadership for an area of high priority for UCL. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance and is expected to be made as an internal secondment on a 0.5 FTE basis, with funding for backfill for the successful applicant.

The new Pro-Provost (Equity and Inclusion) will have a deep understanding of both UCL’s strategic mission and its diverse and complex community, with a particular focus on advising on and providing research-led leadership on issues such as:

  • Creating a sense of belonging for marginalised, under-represented and vulnerable staff;
  • Ensuring workforce planning and policy positively benefits equity-target staff groups;
  • Maximising opportunities for bold positive action on questions of equity and inclusion;
  • Enabling more informed equity and inclusion-influenced decision-making;
  • Enabling a culture of fairness and collegiality across UCL, helping to address negative behaviours such as bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct

The successful candidate will chair the University Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and deputise for the President & Provost internally and externally on EDI matters as required.

Dr Michael Spence, UCL President & Provost, says:

“This is a vital role for UCL and a terrific opportunity for someone with expertise and passion to provide high profile cross-university leadership that really makes a difference to our EDI activity. I am really looking forward to working with the new Pro-Provost to develop stronger support and direction and higher visibility for this absolutely fundamental work.”
