Simplify your everyday admin tasks with Inside UCL - the new staff app
30 March 2022
Find out more about the new app that’s been developed by UCL Digital Experience to simplify everyday tasks such as booking annual leave.
We have busy, busy lives at UCL. Our day jobs take up a huge amount of our thinking and action. So it can be frustrating when the things that should be simple can seem unnecessarily convoluted.
In our personal lives, our expectation is that the things we need to do online will be simple and straightforward, because if they’re not we take our time, our attention, and our wallets elsewhere. Booking a holiday? Buying a train ticket? Switching utility providers? We hope – indeed, we demand - that these services just work.
Then we come to work, and booking leave or trying to find someone’s contact details can take us to several different websites and logins across the university – things sometimes aren’t as joined-up as we’d like them to be.
Well, we have some very good news to share - Inside UCL is the staff experience app that aims to make your admin life at UCL that little bit easier.
What is Inside UCL?
Built by a team of colleagues from across Professional Services, our partners Zensar, and sponsored by Vice-President (Operations) Fiona Ryland, Inside UCL is designed to be used both on the go and at your desk. . And this is just the start of a personalised service that will eventually include all the quick task completions, easy to find information and alerts to new actions that our staff tell us they want.
Access to Inside UCL
If you’d like to try the app out, you can find everything you need to know about accessing and using it on the Digital Experience Sharepoint site, or directly here: https://app.ucl.ac.uk/insideucl/. The app is open to all staff who use employee self service in MyHR.
This app is not a replacement for MyHR, Office 365 or the current staff intranet. We’ve just taken the first of those high volume, less complex tasks the majority of us do, and piloted a different way of presenting some of those simple tasks in a more user-friendly interface.
So what features are there now?
- Staff who work in St Martin’s Le Grand or Bidborough House can book a desk.
- Ability to edit personal details
- Book paid and unpaid leave
- Personalise your quick links
- View staff news
- Search for staff details
The app is supported by a product team who will be continually adding tasks and features on a regular basis, and you can find out about that in more detail, as well as how you can give feedback and contribute to its ongoing development, on our SharePoint site.
