Building access security system upgrade: Find out how this could affect you

7 April 2022

UCL Estates Security and ISD are planning an important upgrade of the building access control system that cardholders use to gain access to turnstiles and secure doors. This is due to take place on Wednesday 20 April, and continue over the weekend of the 23-24 April.

Security turnstiles at UCL

The impact will be as follows:

Wednesday 20 April - System upgrade:

  • UCL Security will not be able to issue ID cards from the Andrew Huxley Building Security Office.  All other services from this location will continue as usual.
  • We will not be able to action changes to cardholder building access on the day of the upgrade.
  • Cardholder access will not be affected.

Thursday 21 April

ID card issue will be back open, but in case the upgrade takes longer than expected, the service should be considered 'at risk'.

On the weekend Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April

There will upgrades to all field equipment that may temporarily impact cardholders accessing doors.  If this happens, please be patient it will only take a couple of minutes.  Fire escape is not impacted by this change, and we will have security staff on hand to assist if required.  If you do experience an ongoing issue with access over the weekend, please call 020 7679 2152.

UCL Security apologises for the inconvenience during this important upgrade to one of our key systems.  This upgrade will help us provide a safe and secure environment for the future.
