Staff Volunteering Survey 2021 opens

11 November 2021

Help us measure the impact our staff have through volunteering in London

London landscape

The Pro-Provost (London) Office has released a survey, open to all staff at UCL, aimed at measuring the volunteering impact UCL staff have in London.

We know that many of you already contribute a significant amount of your time to London and its communities, whether that is through sitting on a variety of boards and committees or volunteering for charities and in the local community.

As set out in the London Framework, we are committed to measuring UCL’s impact in the city and this includes UCL’s significant staff impact through volunteering. We currently do not collect information on the impact of staff volunteering and its significant reach across London. This survey will help us to capture this data.

We want to hear from as many members of staff as possible, regardless of whether you currently volunteer or not. We encourage all staff to complete the survey.

The survey, which should take no longer than five minutes to complete, will be live from 11November until the end of term, with a review of the data in early 2022.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would staff want to complete the survey?

Our longer-term plan is to be able to recognise, and potentially have influence on rewarding staff for their volunteering efforts in London. Demonstrable evidence of staff volunteering impact in London will be detrimental to this.

As the data is currently unmeasured, we encourage staff to take just five minutes to answer the survey to help us start to build a picture of our impact in this area. Even if you don’t currently volunteer, it would be useful to know this through the survey. This will allow us to begin to understand what impact we are having through volunteering in London, as well as the types of organisations our staff are working with across the city.

What will happen once the survey closes?

The survey will stay open until the end of Term 1.

In early 2022 the London Office will analyse the data to understand staff volunteering impact in London. A report will be produced and shared with senior leaders within UCL to initiate discussions on the next phase of this work.

Who is running the survey?

The survey is being conducted by the UCL Pro-Provost (London) Office.

Who will have access to the data?

The survey data will be used to enable the Pro-Provost (London) Office to have a full understanding of our current staff volunteering impact in London. An anonymised report will be produced to demonstrate the current levels of activity.

How long will you keep my data for?

The survey data will be kept for 12 months, before being reviewed. If at that point, the data is no longer needed, it will be deleted.

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Lightstone in the Pro-Provost (London) Office.
