Global Opportunities for UCL Students

23 January 2019

If you're thinking about undertaking a global opportunity over the summer, you may like to consider the following options, the deadlines for which are rapidly approaching!

Global Opportunities

Tuition Fee Free Summer Places
This scheme provides places on partner institution summer schools on a tuition fee free basis. Study Abroad has nine different programmes available across leading institutions in Asia and Australia which will provide interesting and exciting summer opportunities for the selected participants. To give you an idea of what might be to come, you can find testimonials from students who participated in some of the programmes here. A full list of the options available can be found here under the UCL Study Abroad pages.

To be considered for one of these places, you’ll have to complete an online application which can be accessed via Portico. The application deadline is 23.59 on Monday 4 February 2019

Please note that the places on this scheme are open to non-finalist undergraduate students only. Some opportunities are also only open to students from certain departments/faculties, so please check the eligibility requirements for each programme before you apply. The eligibility requirements are also listed via the link above.

Volunteering Opportunity in Fiji
Through our partnership with Think Pacific, UCL students now have the chance to volunteer with Think Pacific in rural Fijian schools, implementing education, health and sports development initiatives in partnership with the Fijian Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health & Ministry of Youth and Sports. Find out more about this opportunity on the International Volunteering page.

Think Pacific will also be hosting an information session at UCL on Tuesday 19 February from 5.30-6.30pm. To find out more and sign up, see the Think Pacific event on Facebook. If you are unable to attend, you can also view one of the earlier information sessions here

Study China Programme
The Study China Programme provides a three-week study experience at leading Chinese universities, covering Chinese language, culture, and business.  Interaction with Chinese students, academic staff, local families, and businesses is structured into a programme of language courses, workshops, trips, and excursions.

Study China is managed by the University of Manchester and generously funded by the UK Government Department for Education. All tuition and accommodation fees are funded; students finance their own travel and living costs though. Eligible Participants will also be welcome to apply for additional funding through Study Abroad.

The application process will close on Friday 15 February 2019. Applications will be processed in the order they are received, so students interested in the programme are encouraged to submit as early as possible.
A testimonial from one of the UCL students who previously took part can be found here

Bursaries
If you are planning to undertake an independent global opportunity over the summer, please also look out for our bursary schemes for 2019 which will launch in February. More details regarding the funding schemes will be added to the funding webpage as soon as the bursaries launch.
