Spotlight on Simon Lockhart
27 November 2017
This week the spotlight is on Simon Lockhart, Facilities and Infrastructure Performance Manager, UCL Estates.
What is your role and what does it involve?
I am Facilities & Infrastructure's (F&I) Performance Manager where my role is to develop and implement measures, systems and procedures to demonstrate the effectiveness of our efforts. This means working with others to gather and analyse information and make recommendations for action.
How long have you been at UCL and what was your previous role?
I have been at UCL for just over two and a half years. Previously I have worked for facilities management providers in roles ranging from helpdesk management to sales to contract management. I read water meters for a month at some point in the distant past too!
What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?
At UCL I designed and introduced a process for gathering, analysing and reporting on a variety of activities in a single procedure. I am proud of it because it has greatly increased the quality and scope of management information within UCL Estates.
Tell us about a project you are working on now which is top of your to-do list?
I am currently working on an audit and monitoring programme that will enable F&I to demonstrate compliance with various work streams including legislation, contract management and Health & Safety.
What is your favourite album, film and novel?
My favourite album is the Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake by Small Faces. I was introduced to it by an old friend who is a massive record collector and gave me an original vinyl picture disc version. I love James Bond movies, with my current favourite being Skyfall - an enjoyable baddie, Judie Dench and that scenery in Scotland! Favourite novel would be one by James Ellroy - probably American Tabloid (although L.A. Confidential could also be in the running). The dirty side of American politics during the 1950s and '60s.
What is your favourite joke (pre-watershed)?
I don't really do jokes, I'm far too serious ;-)
Who would be your dream dinner guests?
My TV hero is David Attenborough - I have always been fascinated with wildlife because of his enthusiasm and delivery of his programmes, he has been very influential on me. I'd love to hear about his travels across the globe.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Do it.
What would it surprise people to know about you?
I'm going to be 40 next year =:-O
What is your favourite place?
Has to be the Isle of Wight, where I am originally from.
