Having a mentor is a unique opportunity to develop your career direction, your professional skills and your network. It can give you a positive edge that can shift your mindset and progress your learning and career.

A mentor can help you provide you with:

  • Tips on settling in and getting the most out of student life.
  • Inside information on your dream employer.
  • Tips on interviews and assessment centres.
  • Advice on perfecting your CV.
  • Help to stimulate your personal and professional growth

Find your perfect match

To find your mentor you first need to register for the UCL Alumni Online Community. This will give you access to an exclusive networking area where you can search for mentors from a pool of thousands of experienced alumni.

You can search the alumni directory by a number of criteria including location, industry, year of graduation and UCL department. You can contact a potential mentor directly and establish a mentoring relationship that works for you both. There is no limit on the number of alumni you can contact or the duration of a mentoring relationship.

Alumni have actively volunteered to give their time to help students like you and they are always happy to give you advice. If you are struggling to think of mentor you would like to contact then try using you the keyword search to look for alumni with the same interests as you such as 'sustainability', 'fashion' or 'media'. Or you could look for experienced alumni by searching for job titles such as 'CEO', 'Director' or 'founder'.

Don't hesitate, you have nothing to lose. At worst you'll get some friendly advice at best you'll secure yourself a job - Esme Stallard, MSc Environment and Sustainable Development student.
