National Student Survey response rates higher than ever at halfway point

4 March 2016

More UCL students than ever before have completed the

NSS Survey 2016 thestudentsurvey.com/" target="_self">National Student Survey (NSS) after eight weeks, the halfway point, following its launch on 11 January.

Response rates are racing ahead with 57% of students giving their feedback on their experience at UCL so far, 14% higher than this time last year and well above the national average.

The National Student Survey is sent to all final year undergraduates studying in the UK and is an opportunity for you to give your feedback on your experience and help shape education at UCL.

Departments have been trying creative new approaches to raise awareness of the survey:

"We work with our student society a lot and we've encouraged them to discuss what they'd spend the money on to get some incentive going. We also ran an NSS information session before Christmas to talk them through the questions, how the data is used and the changes that can come about from student feedback."
Jenny Post, UCL Bartlett School of Planning

"As a department, we provide an additional incentive if a response rate of 90% is achieved - so with the £250 incentive, a total of £300, which students can spend on food and drink for their finalist leaving party after exams."
Andrew King, UCL European Social & Political Studies

"We took the completion rate up to 74% last week by holding a presentation after a final year lecture with key members of staff attending. We also took along iPads so that students could complete the survey while they were still in the lecture theatre."
Elizabeth Mead, UCL Pharmacy

Final year undergraduates who haven't yet taken the survey can participate online anytime before 30 April.
