Stay safe online
24 November 2015
UCL Professional Services departments have been affected multiple times over the last few months by malicious software which "locks" shared files away and asks for money to restore them.
This has resulted in up to a week of loss of access to shared
drives in affected areas, and permanent loss of a few files.
Please use great
caution when you receive an email with links and/or attachments. If in doubt,
do not click on a link or open an attachment. Please see https://www.ucl.ac.uk/informationsecurity/staysafe,
and contact ISD Service Desk on 25000 or servicedesk@ucl.ac.uk for further advice.
There is also a Moodle course on information security awareness, which includes training on recognising a malicious (phishing) email: https://moodle.ucl.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=26205.
